I am truly honored by the trust Anaesthesia fraternity has instilled in me by electing me as General Secretary of PSA Karachi and I am excited to be working with such a great group of elected officials from the many different institutes of Karachi.
On 13th March 1971 twelve anaesthesiologists led by Dr. Habib-ul-Haq Siddiqui formally decided to collectively strive for the betterment of their specialty, and thus Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologists (PSA) was established. Pakistan society of Anaesthesiologist has been working since decades in providing knowledge skills and ethical education to the generations of Anaesthesiologist in the country.
To have a competent Anaesthesiologist we need to have a good training programme, continued medical education and continuous professional development in all aspects related to an Anaesthesiologist.
The Society is holding regular clinical meetings, CMEs, PG Courses and seminars apart from annual Conferences which have been held regularly since the inception of the society to raise the academic and technical standards of the profession.
Today’s Anaesthesiologist is not only an indispensable part of the surgical team who used to be confined to operation theatres but is also involved in a wide range of clinical disciplines. He is an intensivist in critical care medicine, an important member of trauma and pain management team.
PSA web site was launched in 2010, this site features Information, PSA Newsletter, Events, Picture gallery. It also includes Links, Discussion Forum, etc which will be beneficial for all and remain updated with the advancement in Anaesthesiology.
I am grateful to all the office bearers throughout these years for the various milestones the Society has achieved to reach its present status, which is nothing less than “A Role Model Society”.
