It is indeed a great pleasure and honour for me to be elected the president of Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologist, Karachi

On March 1971, twelve anaesthesiologists led by Dr. habib-ul-Haq Siddiqui formally decided to collectively strive for the betterment of their speciality and thus Pakistan Society of Anaesthesiologists (PSA) was established

PSA is one of the oldest and most active societies of the Pakistan’s medical fraternity and is in fact a role model for others to follow

The society is holding regular clinical meetings, CME programs, Post graduate courses and seminars apart from annual conferences which have been held regularly since the inception of the society to raise the academic and technical standards of the profession

Today’s anaesthesiologist is not only an indispensible part of the surgical team who used to be confined to the operation theaters, but is also involved in a wide variety of clinical disciplines. He is an intensivist in critical care medicine and an important member of trauma and pain management teams

In the end I thank with all the depth of my heart the founding members of this great society specially in those times when the specialty of anaesthesiology was not given its due share of respect and recognition by the common public and doctors alike. All words of praise and thanks go out for the office bearers throughout these years for the various milestones the society has achieved to reach its present status

Inshallah I am looking forward to a fruitful and busy year ahead. For this I will need the guidance and help of my predecessors and colleagues
