Trauma Physician – An emerging role of Anesthesiologists 33rd Annual Conference

PSA Karachi organized 33rd Annual Conference on 13th and 14th April, 2013 at Pearl Continental, Karachi to carry on the legacy of society and its commitment to encourage education research and training in profession while promoting the highest standard of patients care safety and pain management.

The theme of this year conference was, “Trauma physician-An emerging role of Anaesthesiologist”.

The Anaesthesia society is the one of the most vibrant among specialist societies of the country and rightfully claims to be role module society said the chief guest Prof. Zafar Ullah Chaudhry president College of Physician and Surgeons Pakistan. He further said, Karachi chapter of society still retain its leading role by providing organizational as well as academic guidance to the other branches in the country.

Dr. Madiha Hashmi president PSA Karachi on her welcome address said. Trauma physician-An emerging role of Anaesthesiologist is very pertinent in view of significant increase in number of injured who present to hospital as a result of violent activities in the country, especially in the Karachi.

The specialty of the Anaesthesia in the last few decades has progressed phenomenally helping surgeons to operate with ever increasing comfort and concentration, was said by guest of honor senior Anaesthesiologist Prof. M. Younis Khatri.

Prof. S. Tipu Sultan pattern of the society in his speech said that progress made in last century has transformed the specialist of Anaesthesia to Anaesthesiology and sophistication in Anaesthesia has certainly contributed great deal in the progress and advancement of many surgical super and sub specialties.

Dr. Amin Khuwaja Gen. Sec. PSA Karachi while presenting annual report of society said that the objective of society is to produced competent Anaesthesiologist and for that team effort was done to have CME’s (Continue medical education) and continuous professional development in all aspects related to Anaesthesiologist. Presenting his annual report Dr. Amin Khuwaja Inform the audience that is the 2012 – 2013 PSA Karachi conducted CME programs with collaboration of major institute of the city, further he said in the month of September, 2012 sepsis conference was arranged in collaboration with society of critical care and PSA Karachi. And was attendant by large number of National Delegates.

The pain con was two days program on pain medicine held in the month of October and November, 2012 in DUHS and AKUH. This includes pain camps and symposium also said to keep the transparency PSA account was regularly presented before cabinet and Executive Committee members.

The inaugural session ended with vote of thanks by treasure of society Dr. Nabeela Rafique she thank the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honor, the Delegates and all pharmaceutical companies for making great effort to make this conference successful.

In the end of inauguration ceremony pattern of the society Prof. S. Tipu Sultan Presented shield as mementos to chief guest and Guest of honor. This was followed by opening of scientific exhibition by chief guest Prof. Zafar ullah Chaudhry.

The two days scientific program was started after inauguration ceremony, Prof. Sadqa Aftab Chairperson scientific committee in her opening remarks said that conference aim is to highlights the fact that Anaesthesiologist are an integral part of trauma team and play key role developing effective team work essential for timely resuscitation of trauma victims and success of trauma team.

The scientific program included pre congress workshops panel discussion junior Anaesthestist research paper competition poster presentation public awareness program and breakfast session discussing different scenarios.

More than 475 delegates from all over Pakistan participated in conference.

PSA News Letter which is published regularly was also distributed during scientific session.

In this 33rd annual conference there were 12 pre congress workshops which were held in different hospitals of the city. These workshops includes Basic Life Support for Anaesthesia technicians sponsored by PSA Karachi at NICVD, Invasive arterial line monitoring at NICVD, Difficult air way at JPMC, shock able rhythms at LNH, Nutrition in critical ill patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, combined spinal epidural at SIUT, Ultra sound guided peripheral nerve blocks at Indus Hospital, Ultra Sound guided vascular access at AKUH, CPR at Civil Hospital Karachi, sepsis at DIMC, peripheral nerve block at PNS Shifa, Ultra sound stimulation for nerve blocks at Patel Hospital.

On Saturday evening for National Delegates dinner was arranged at seaside where among few National delegates showed their artistic activity by singing beautiful songs.

On Sunday after noon the closing ceremony was followed by business session where new cabinet was elected.
